GRADE BOOK
                                                                                    Syllabus

Instructor:  Pastor Melvyn E. F. Hayden III

Course Description:  This one-credit course is divided into two independently graded quarters.  The first quarter consists of a study of
Church Doctrine & Beliefs and Daniel & Revelation.  The second quarter traces Paul’s ministry to the Romans and finally we will end
with a unit covering Friendship and the Choices and Challenges Teens face each day in this modern world.

Textbooks:  It is required that a Bible be brought to class every day.  Any version is acceptable, although the teacher will lecture primarily
from the King James Version.  The textbooks for each quarter are as follows:
Quarter I: Beliefs, Daniel and Revelation
Quarter II: Romans, Friendship, Choices and Challenges

Grading System:  There are seven (7) components that comprise the grading system described as follows and listed in the general order of
importance:

•        Tests:  The tests cover the assigned reading, material presented and discussed in class during that week and especially the review
sheet given the school day before the test, and include a repetition of quiz questions since the last test.  Three tests of 100 + points will be
given each quarter scheduled normally on a Friday unless otherwise announced.  The two highest test scores will make up your Testing
average.  The lowest of the three test scores will be eliminated. Neither retakes nor make-up tests will be allowed unless parent gives
permission to miss.

•        Assignments:  Homework due for the day, unless noted otherwise, is expected to be turned in at the beginning of class the school
day after it was assigned.  Late assignments will be accepted but will lose 5 points for every additional day turned in late.

•        Final Exam:  A final exam covering the last 1/3 of the course will be given at the end of the quarter but students that score a
combined average of 94% on the first and second test will be exempt from taking it if they so choose.

•        Class Grade:  This grade is based on being attentive and participating in class, bringing and using a Bible, and being quiet in class.
Leading in class devotion twice and participating during school chapel with class.

•        Quizzes:  A quiz covering the previous class day will be given at the beginning of class approximately twice a week.  A student who
is late for class will be assigned a zero for that day’s quiz.  A quiz will not be made up in the case of an absence.  If the absence is
excused, the missed quiz will be averaged in.  If the absence is unexcused, a zero will be assigned.

•        Notebooks / Prayer Journal:  Notebooks and prayer journals will be graded periodically (with warning). Students must have a
notebook dedicated exclusively to my Bible class.

•        Projects:  One or more projects will be assigned for each quarter that will ordinarily require more than one day to complete. (worth
up to 50 points)

•        At the end of the Semester I will drop the lowest test, quiz, and assignment scores.  This will make a big difference in raising your
overall grade.
