The Great Promise Keeper (Lesson 1 Notes)
Covenant: promise, agreement
3 characteristics to a covenant: 1. God initiated 2. God promised. 3. God's grace
The word covenant occurs 287 times in the Old Testament.
5 Big promises came directly from God to Abraham:
1. I will make you a great nation.
2. I will bless you.
3. I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.
4. I will bless those that bless you and curse those that curse you.
5. All the people on the earth will be blessed through you.
To get these promises Abram had to leave his home territory and go to a new
land. (Gen. 12:1)
God repeats these promises to Abraham at least 5 times.
Abraham was 100 and Sarah was 90 when she became pregnant. This shows
that God not only gives promises but also provides the power to fulfill it.
We are Abrahams seed and heir of the promises. Gal. 3:29
This is credited to us by FAITH.
If we have faith we are called the sons of Abraham.
The Bible is a book of promises from God to mankind.
Abraham: father of many
Progress Brings Oppression (Lesson 2 Notes)
To keep Israel powerless Pharoah: 1. Put slave masters over them. 2. Forced
them to build cities for him. 3. Made them perform all kinds of work in the
fields. (Ex. 1:11-14)
Israelites were in slavery for 400 years. This was prophecied about in Gen.
15:13
Moses: "man child"
Jacob: supplanter becomes Israel: overcomer
God responded in 4 ways to the suffering of the Children of Israel.
1. Heard their cry.
2. Remembered His covenant.
3. Saw their slavery.
4. Was concerned.
Israels slavery is like sin today.
Difficulties and struggles may really mean that you are doing the right thing!
The good news is that God sees and hears, gives alot of help, and turns
problems into blessings!
Battle of God and the Gods (Lesson 3 Notes)
The battle was really between God and satan.
God sent 10 plagues to deliver the Israelites from the hands of the Egyptians
which did several things:

2. Gave Pharaoh a chance.
3. Showed how powerless Egyptian gods were.

Jesus is our Passover Lamb
It took place the first month of the year.
There should be one lamb for each family/houshold.
A one yr. old male sheep or goat without blemish was to be killed.
The animals were to be killed at twilight.
Some of the blood was to be put on the sides and tops of door frames.
Bitter herbs and bread without yeast was to be eaten with the lamb.
The remains of the roasted lamb were to be burned in the morning.
The Passover participants were to be dressed with cloaks tucked in, sandals
on, staff in hand, dressed and ready to go.
God was particular because the ritual symbolism was very meaningful and
important. In things of great meaning, God is particular today. The blood was
important because it (like Jesus' blood) provided a life given (lamb) to save life
Israels firstborn sons).
Wilderness Wandering (Lesson 4 Notes)
Duet. 1:2 says that it's an 11 day journey from Horeb to Kadesh barnea (border of Caanan).
About 200 miles from Egypt to Palestine. 20 miles is a days journey.
But it took the children of Israel 40 years. Why?
1. Grumbling (lack of faith) Grumbling was the beginning of their downfall.
2. Unorganized- Jethro gave Moses very good advice about getting organized called delegation.
3. Sin legthens the jouney
4. Lack of faith - spies gave a bad report. only Caleb and Joshua gave a good one.
Jesus was the bread and water for the Israelites in the wilderness.
Bread- manna.
Water- that rock was Christ.
Sinai Sound -and Light Show (Lesson 5 Notes)
Know the 10 Commandments by heart.
First 4 show our love for God and the last 6 show our love for mankind.
The Law can only be give to a freed people. We are saved by grace through faith alone not
the law. Doing right is the natural outgrowth of one who really loves Jesus.
It is impossible to love 2 masters.
What is the difference between the Law of God and the Ceremonial Law?
Can you identify the different pieces of furniture in the sanctuary?
